Extracurricular Classes That Inspire & Engage

At Intiwasi, learning doesn’t end when the school day does. Our diverse extracurricular programs, from sports and dance to music, cooking, art, and more, give children the chance to explore their passions, build confidence, and develop new skills, including Spanish, in a joyful, supportive environment. As a PYP candidate school, we design classes that spark curiosity, creativity, and balance, helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

About Maestro Álvaro


Álvaro Carmena-Black is a Spanish-American musician and educator with a passion for helping young students discover the joy of music. He began playing trumpet at age seven and went on to study a variety of styles, from classical to jazz, before earning his Bachelor of Music in Brass Performance from Berklee College of Music. With experience both as a performer and teacher, Álvaro is dedicated to guiding students step by step in their musical journey, building skills, confidence, and a lifelong love for music.

Looking for an inspiring way to nurture your child’s love of music after school? At Intiwasi, students can sign up for one-on-one lessons with Maestro Álvaro, available Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (subject to availability).

With years of experience and a passion for teaching, Maestro Álvaro offers personalized instruction in piano and wind instruments, guiding each student step by step to build skill, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Since musical growth is achieved through consistency, families are encouraged to commit to the full year, and a month's notice is required to stop services.

To celebrate progress, our young musicians have the opportunity to perform in two annual recitals, one in December and one in June. Participation is optional, but students are always encouraged and supported to share their talents on stage

Give your child the gift of Spanish in a fun, engaging way! This class is designed for children who are new to Spanish or who want to maintain and strengthen their skills. With a focus on oral fluency, practical vocabulary, and real-life usage, students will gain confidence communicating naturally in Spanish.

The program combines conversation, games, and interactive activities to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable. Each class is tailored to the needs and levels of the students, ensuring that every child feels supported and challenged at just the right pace.

Whether your child is beginning their Spanish journey or looking to keep it alive outside of school, this class provides the perfect space to practice and grow.

Ritmo Explorers

Schedule: Thursdays at 3:30 PM

Welcome to Ritmo Explorers, a joyful after-school class where children discover the magic of rhythm and the rich musical traditions of Latin America, all while having fun!

Through playful group drumming, movement, and musical games.

 

Led by Profe Guido, an experienced bilingual (English/Spanish) musician and educator, Ritmo Explorers blends hands-on learning with movement and creativity.

Children will explore instruments like the cajón, bombo, shakers, and more, learning the rhythms that bring the cultures of Latin America to life.

About Maestro Guido

Guido Consoli is a Los Angeles-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound designer passionate about inspiring children through music. From leading rock bands in Buenos Aires to composing symphonies in LA, Guido brings creativity and energy to every lesson, helping young learners explore the power of music and storytelling.

A Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music in film composing and a Latin Grammy nominee, Guido has over a decade of experience producing and teaching music. He specializes in guiding children to discover rhythm, melody, and expression while developing confidence, creativity, and a love for the arts.

Through hands-on activities and fun musical experiences, Guido encourages kids to connect with music in meaningful ways, helping them build skills that last a lifetime while sparking imagination and joy.

Celebrate the season of change with our Fall Yoga & Mindfulness class, designed especially for children.  Alongside movement, children will learn mindfulness techniques including breathing exercises, guided meditations, and calming routines that foster focus, self-awareness, and emotional well-being. Each class ties into the themes of fall, change, letting go, and gratitude—helping children connect with the season in a meaningful way.

This class is perfect for nurturing both physical health and emotional resilience, giving kids tools to manage stress while building confidence, coordination, and calm.

This class aims to give your children tools to understand their feelings, build confidence, and develop strong social skills in a fun, active environment! Emotions in Motion is a dynamic afterschool program that combines social-emotional learning (SEL) with movement, games, and creative play.

Our hands-on approach allows children to “move their feelings”, making learning emotional intelligence fun, engaging, and memorable. Each week introduces playful activities and reflective moments that help children navigate emotions, develop resilience, and grow socially and emotionally.

Tuesday: Gymnastics

Gymnastics: Build Stability & Coordination

Our gymnastics class builds a strong foundation for physical development in a safe, supportive, and playful environment. Through engaging activities, children develop stability, movement, and coordination while having a blast!

The class is progressive, with Ms. Lisa adapting activities to match each child’s skill level, ensuring continuous growth and fun.

Our Youth Soccer Skills Program is designed for children to develop fundamental soccer skills while building confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game. Through engaging drills and fun exercises, kids learn to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend, all in a supportive and energetic environment.

With guidance from maestro Ioska, each child receives personalized coaching to ensure progress and maximize enjoyment. This program promotes a healthy, active lifestyle while fostering a lifelong interest in soccer.

Flavors of the Harvest invites children to explore seasonal ingredients, global recipes, and healthy cooking in a fun, hands-on environment. This class combines culinary skills with cultural learning, helping young chefs develop confidence, creativity.

Join us for a fun and messy class where children explore the colors, textures, and magic of autumn through hands-on art and sensory activities. Designed for young artists, each weekly session introduces new projects that encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression, all inspired by the season!

Each class is adaptable to meet the needs and skill levels of the group, ensuring every child can create, explore, and have fun in a supportive environment.

Thursday: Pókemon and animals

The magic of Pókemon comes to life

Bring your child’s favorite Pokémon to life in our Pokémon  & Animal Adventure class! Kids will meet live animals, discover fascinating facts about real creatures that inspired Pokémon, and design their very own Pokémon character.

What Kids Will Do:

  • Interact with live animals and learn about their unique traits.

  • Explore the real-world science behind Pokémon-inspired creatures.

  • Create and design their own Pokémon characters.

  • Battle and share their creations with friends in a fun, safe environment.

Friday: Ballet

Intro to Ballet for Girls: Grace, Strength, and Confidence

Schedule: 3:30 or 4:15

Our beginner ballet class introduces young dancers to the world of ballet in a fun, supportive environment. Over 13 engaging sessions, students explore ballet’s history, posture, alignment, and essential movements like foot positions, arm placements, barre exercises, and simple pirouettes. Girls develop balance, coordination, musicality, and artistic expression while learning choreography that combines all the skills they’ve mastered. By the end of the course, students will gain confidence, grace, and a strong foundation in classical ballet techniques.

Friday: Hip Hop

GROVE, MOVE AND EXPRESS YOURSELF 

Our 14-week Hip Hop class introduces children to the fundamentals of hip hop dance while building confidence, rhythm, and creativity. Students explore grooves, footwork, isolations, and beginner-friendly power moves, gradually learning a full choreography to perform in the final presentation. Through games, freestyle circles, and group activities, kids develop musicality, teamwork, and stage presence, all while having fun and expressing themselves through movement. Perfect for beginners and young dancers looking to build skills in a supportive, energetic environment.
